Two young artists make satisfying debut with the SLSO during a weekend where romance warms the heart

A light turnout meant there were tributaries of empty red seats Friday at Powell Hall for a concert of romantic works on this Valentine’s Day weekend.

Restaurants and other intimate venues are competing with classical music on these nights when love and beautiful music are in the air. One hopes that the crowds on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon are larger than Friday’s, because the fare by the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra is quite appetizing.

Review: The Miami Herald

New World Symphony’s performance offers a blissful escape

As Super Bowl madness gripped South Florida, it figured to be possible to forget all that and escape into Miami Beach’s Lincoln Theatre Friday evening for a concert by the New World Symphony.

Think again. “Super Bowl XLIX — Own the Moment,” read a rack of T-shirts in the theater’s bar, temporarily converted into a football memorabilia shop, where bemused concertgoers wandered around the team jerseys and commemorative mugs. Other items: NFL golf balls, “Lil’ Teammates Collectible NFL Figures” and a copy of the “Official Game Coin.”
